ABOUT US

The Division of Children and Family Services (DCFS) is the division at the Department of Human Services (DHS) that provides services for children that need the protection of DHS due to elevated risk for child abuse and neglect. The Division of Children and Family Services consists of:  Protective Unit, which provides in-home services to families to reduce the risk child maltreatment while children remain in their homes; and the Foster Care and Adoptions Unit, which provides out-of-home services when children that cannot safely remain in their homes, to reduce the risks and ameliorate problems to facilitate reunion when possible or helping children safely transition to new forever homes or successful transition to adulthood and independence.

This unit recruits, trains and certifies foster homes and recruits adoptive families. Staff are duly trained facilitators of the National Training and Development Curriculum for Foster and Adoptive Parents (NTDC) developed by Spaulding for Children in partnership with the US Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families Children’s Bureau. DCFS staff conduct local and international home studies for placements and adoptions.
